How This Calculator Works
This calculator converts current (Amps) to real power (KW) for both single-phase and three-phase electrical systems, taking power factor into account.
Key Concepts:
- Current (Amps): The flow of electric charge through a conductor
- Real Power (KW): The actual power consumed by the equipment (working power)
- Voltage (V): The electrical potential difference
- Power Factor: Ratio of real power to apparent power (0 to 1)
Formulas Used:
Single Phase:
P = (I × V × PF) ÷ 1000
Where:
P = Power in KW
I = Current in Amps
V = Voltage in Volts
PF = Power Factor
P = (I × V × PF) ÷ 1000
Where:
P = Power in KW
I = Current in Amps
V = Voltage in Volts
PF = Power Factor
Three Phase:
P = (I × V × √3 × PF) ÷ 1000
Where √3 ≈ 1.732
P = (I × V × √3 × PF) ÷ 1000
Where √3 ≈ 1.732
Example Calculation
Single Phase Example:
20 Amps at 230V with PF=0.85:
P = (20 × 230 × 0.85) ÷ 1000 = 3.91 KW
P = (20 × 230 × 0.85) ÷ 1000 = 3.91 KW
Three Phase Example:
30 Amps at 400V with PF=0.9:
P = (30 × 400 × 1.732 × 0.9) ÷ 1000 = 18.71 KW
P = (30 × 400 × 1.732 × 0.9) ÷ 1000 = 18.71 KW
